Douglas and Braddan to self-fund extension of kerbside collection scheme

Trial from November \'11 to March \'12 will cost Douglas Council and Braddan Commissioners £85,000

The kerbside collection service for Douglas and Braddan has been further extended for a trial period between November and March of next year.

The service was established in 2009 as a partnership between Douglas, Braddan and Onchan, funded originally by DLGE and now the Department of Infrastructure.

Their financial support will cease from October 31st of this year, it will then be taken on by the Douglas Borough Council and the Braddan Commissioners with the trial expected to cost £85,000.

Braddan Commissioners commented saying the financial cost is far outweighed by the environmental savings.

From the outset the main aim of the waste management scheme has been to ensure a greener future for the Isle of Man.
