Infrastructure Minister Michelle Haywood says she didn't realise Island-wide 20mph speed limits would spark so much public interest.
In the House of Keys this week Glenfaba and Peel MHK Kate Lord-Brennan quizzed her about the way the restrictions were announced.
Dr Haywood apologised for not speaking to the public before starting the programme, and her department's already had 700 messages about the proposal.
She told MHKs she should have done better:
