Dog Owners Reminded Not to Hunt Hares on DAFF Hill Estate
The Department of Agriculture and the Police would like to remind dog owners that it’s illegal to allow their dogs to hunt Hares on the Department’s hill estate.
Despite previous reminders the problem is still occurring.
Blue or Mountain Hares are only found in upland areas , since a population explosion they were re-classified from Game species to vermin.
The decline in the Hare population has been noticed especially by those contracted by the Government to shoot them in an effort to conserve wildlife and habitat.
