Dobson in line for legal costs reward

Nigel Dobson could be awarded legal costs after being acquitted of charges against him relating to September’s general election.

Mr Dobson was at Douglas Courthouse yesterday charged with lying on his election nomination paper after failing to declare a previous drink-driving charge.

However, the court was told that the 58-year-old had no advantage in not disclosing the information, as it was already common knowledge having been covered widely in the media.

He stood unsuccessfully in Garff, losing to the re-elected Steve Rodan.

Mr Dobson could be awarded full legal costs at the Magistrates’ meeting next Wednesday, although he is not required to attend.

The meeting will get under way at 3pm.
