The Department of Health and Social Care says it doesn't know how many people on the Island are prescribed medical cannabis.
It was responding to a Freedom of Information request about the number of registered medicinal cannabis users.
But in its response, it said Manx Care doesn't prescribe cannabis products - which are only available through private prescriptions.
The private prescribing clinics are registered and inspected by the government, but the number of prescriptions isn't recorded by Manx Care.
