The Department of Health have today confirmed that a Dentist on the Island has been suspended from practising by the General Dental Council for a period of six months.
65-year-old Gunter Zimmerman of the Woodbourne Dental Surgery had the suspension handed down in relation to some treatments he provided for an unnamed patient between September 2006 and May 2007.
The treatments involved the extraction of teeth, the provision of implants to the upper and lower jaws and the provision of an upper bridge.
It was alleged that he did not take the proper steps when carrying out the tricky procedures, least of all informing the patient of the side effects.
It is also heard the bridgework was substandard.
As a result of his misconduct his fitness to practice as a dentist was deemed to be impaired.
