The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture has stepped in to rescue 130 eels from a pond after hot weather led to low water levels.
After low rainfall and high temperatures, the pond in Tromode was in danger of drying out, killing the fish.
Although eels can move out of water to find more, predatory birds can pick them off and DEFA says the rescued eels would have died from heat, suffocation and desiccation.
