DED outlines finer details of MGP changes

More details have emerged about the proposed controversial changes to the MGP, less than 48 hours after the Manx Motorcyle Club had a meeting strongly opposed to some of the suggestions.

Economic Development has said it wants to see three races for classic machines and two races for modern-day bikes.

It says it’s designed to ensure that competitors enjoy the optimum amount of track time while reducing the impact on local businesses and residents by maximising road closure opportunities at weekends and the August Bank Holiday.

Practice for the 2013 event will on Saturday, August 17, with the sessions starting at 6.20pm with the first races getting under way six days later.

Earlier this week, the MMC’s chairman Harvey Garton said the department was completing missing the trick by wanting to restructure the event more centrally around the vintage bikes.

Since 2005 entries in these classes have been in steep decline and are contributing to the event’s annual loss of nearly £400,000.
