DEC thrilled at war veteran's recognition

The Department of Education and Children says it’s overjoyed that war veteran Hector Duff has been honoured by the Queen.

The 93-year-old Sulby man has been awarded the British Empire Medal for services to education.

Mr Duff has worked tirelessly over many years touring the Island’s schools recounting his experiences of the Second World War.

He also plays a role in preparing secondary students for the annual parade and service that make up Armed Forces Day each June.

Speaking to the station, Hector said he felt his work has served a great purpose and has no plans to retire (audio above):
