The Manx Emergency Doctor Service was found to not always be safe or effective, according to the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
That's the latest from the CQC's recent report, following an inspection in November last year.
Recommendations include improving staffing cover arrangements, and implementing systems to monitor the quality and effectiveness of care provided.
However, the CQC reported the service was caring, responsive, and well-led, stating feedback from patients was positive about how staff treated people.
Further, the commission noted there was 'compassionate, inclusive and effective leadership at all levels.'
