Council pledging £16k to help DOI install sea wall art

Douglas Council says it'll pledge £16,000 to help the Department of Infrastructure install public artwork along Loch Promenade's sea defence wall.

It says the money is to make up for a shortfall in the DOI's funding bid for the capital's sea defence scheme, which did not include the cost of the artwork panels.

Three local artists have been commissioned to create 15 designs celebrating Douglas and the Isle of Man’s heritage, culture and coastline.

Council leader Devon Watson says the artwork will transform the sea defences into an attractive public feature while protecting the future of the city’s promenade.

He adds it will also allow for future investment in the seafront, such as the planned improvement of the Marine Gardens.
