Could Minister's Pinewood stance be his 'political suicide'

There is an eager wait to see what the fall out could be for Education and Children Minister Peter Karran, after he voted against plans to invest in Pinewood Studios.

Now passed, government will invest £24 million in to Pinewood Shepperton for a 19.9% stake, with a further £25 million to be handed over for the illustrious studios to manage the Island’s media development fund.

The Minister’s Liberal Vannin party opposed the proposals on the grounds they hadn’t been presented with sufficient information to make an informed decision.

They also wanted to know why the Chief Minister endorsed such a major investment in a high risk industry.

Going against his fellow Council of Minister’s could be, as MHK Howard Quayle put it, Mr Karran’s political suicide.

Commenting in Tynwald the Chief Minister said he was very disappointed in the Liberal Vannin leader’s stance.
