Constabulary reveal where budget cuts will come from

The Island is to lose one of its Neighbourhood Policing Teams and two police stations as the Constabulary formulate ways to cope with a £600,000 budget cut.

The Eastern team will now cease with all affected officers redeployed to Douglas and Northern neighbourhood units.

Onchan and Braddan stations have been earmarked for closure.

4 posts will be cut through natural wastage, there will only be reduction in hours as Police Officers are Crown Servants therefore cannot be made redundant.

A planned recruitment exercise for the next year will be scrapped and accompanied by a further top-slicing of budgets.

The Chief Constable has said, 'the Isle of Man enjoys one of the safest environments to live and work. My officers and staff will do everything they can to ensure that this continues.'
