Community service for landlord who lost TT takings

A former pub landlord has been ordered to carry out community service after £6,000 of takings went missing from his pub.

48-year-old Mark Haigh, from Ribchester in Lancashire, was sentenced at Douglas Courthouse last week.

He'd previously admitted falsifying accounting records from The Raven in Ballaugh - in August last year the accounting team at Heron and Brearley noticed a series of "banking anomalies".

The company had noted a £4,000 shortfall - Haigh was suspended and later admitted his TT takings had gone missing after he was called away "unexpectedly" during the process of counting it.

Instead of reporting it Haigh said he'd decided in "desperation" to hide the loss and pay back the amount from his own money.

Magistrates ordered him to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work and to pay costs of £125.
