Commissioner pleaded guilty to depositing unlicensed waste

A Ramsey commissioner has pleaded guilty to depositing unlicensed waste in a field near Andreas.

Wilfred George Young of Derby Road in Ramsey appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse.

The 77 year old admitted depositing unlicensed waste and allowing equipment to be used to deposit it on land north of Bernaharra Road between June 1 and 30 last year.

Prosecutor Barry Swain told the hearing the boss of Wilf’s Skips had put the waste at the site without being licensed – when asked for a plea, Young said “I suppose I must be guilty, but I don’t remember it”.

Mr Swain told the bench a special half-day hearing would be needed to go through the facts in the case, adding the maximum sentence had been six months imprisonment or a £5,000 fine until the regulations had been updated recently.

Magistrates adjourned the case and Young will appear in court again for the factual hearing on June 20.
