Closure of Liverpool Coastguard Station expected to have minimal impact to Island

Isle of Man Coastguards deal with over 80% of the incidents in our territorial waters, this is expected to grow to well over 90% given the planned changes.

It’s been confirmed that Liverpool Coastguard Station, who have strong links with the Isle of Man, will be shutting in two years time.

It’s part of plans to rationalise the provision of coastguard services around the UK; the decision came following the responses of a recently completed consultation process.

They’ve had a close working relationship with the Island since 1988 collaborating on rescues and providing much needed resources, however the impact of the changes to the Island are expected to be minimal.

As it stands the Isle of Man Coastguards deal with over 80% of the incidents in our territorial waters, this is expected to grow to well over 90% given the planned changes.
