Issue of Anonymous Financiers For Election Candidates Needs Looking Into Says Chief Minister
The Chief Minister was faced with a question in Tynwald today about anonymous groups supporting election candidates.
On the issue of third parties supporting candidates while wanting to remain anonymous he said it's a matter that he has referred to the Council of Minister's for urgent consideration.
There has been recent speculation surrounding the backing of a candidate in the current Douglas East by-election.
The concern comes from fears that those offering the anonymous financial backing may have ulterior motives as to why they want the individual in office.
The Chief Minister confirmed that any proposals for change to the present position on this matter will be published soon.
The six contenders for the seat in the by-election are: Kate Beecroft, Colin Cain, Chris Heath, John Joughin, Chris Robertshaw and Kevin Woodford.
