Make sure you know what's underneath your bonfire before setting it alight.
That's the advice from the Manx Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which says creatures such as hedgehogs can be sheltering underneath piles of wood.
Juana Warburton from the charity says it can be a real problem if the bonfire's been in place for some time because some wildlife will see it as an ideal hiding place - her advice is simple:
