Changes to Quarterbridge works next week

There will be some changes to roadworks on a busy road in Douglas from next week.

From next Monday (March 1) until no later than March 31 the one-way system in place from Quarterbridge Roundabout will be extended to the traffic lights at the bottom of Bray Hill.

Works on the stretch resumed at the start of the month to improve pavements and roads there.

Highway Services say the extra measures are to facilitate the resurfacing of the entire road which officials say is beginning to deteriorate and is one of the busiest highways on the Island.

Meanwhile, the road may close during night time hours on certain days next month so certain parts of the initiative can be carried out with the DOI stating people will be given at least three days notice if closures have to to take place during the evenings.

This, officials say, is so works can be undertaken without impacting commuter, school and business traffic.

Night-time workers are planned to only operate until around 9pm-10pm to keep noise to a minimum for nearby residents.

Furthermore, pedestrian access on the road will be maintained during this stage of the project and access for emergency services will be made possible should the need arise.
