Cyclist Mark Cavendish has been a victim of an aggravated burglary at his home.
Sky News states:
"Essex Police say four armed men entered the property and assaulted the joint record Tour de France stage winner, and then threatened his wife while his children watched on.
None of them suffered serious injuries - but Cavendish is already recovering from a punctured lung.
No arrests have been made."
Cavendish has taken to his Twitter to address the incident - which he says happened on Saturday, November 27.
The statement reads:
"In the early hours of 27th November, while recovering at our Essex family home shortly after leaving Intensive Care, 4 masked and armed men forced their way in to our home as we slept, threatened my wife and children and violently attacked me. At knifepoint, they proceeded to ransack our belongings."
He revealed 2 watches of great sentiment and value were taken - but "far far worse" was their sense of security, safety, privacy and dignity.
He says the effect the nightmare has had on him and his family is already 'heart-breakingly evident'.
