Cavendish settles for 4th following pile up

Mark Cavendish has had another sprint finish marred by a pile up in the final moments of stage 11 in the Giro D’Italia.

Although the Manxman escaped unscathed it scuppered his chances of taking the win, having to settle for fourth place instead.

After the race he expressed his disappointment with his lead out rider, Geraint Thomas, whose right foot slipped as he took the final corner where the pile up took place.

Despite not winning this round Cavendish still totted up the required points to take the red points jersey from Australian sprinter Matt Goss.

He’ll be back in action today for a stage littered with hilly climbs.
