First Event of Olympics Confirmed as 150 Mile Men\'s Road Racing Event
The events schedule has been published for the 2012 London Olympic Games, with the men’s road racing up first.
This means of course that Mark Cavendish will be in the saddle for the opener, and a hot favourite to secure Britain’s first gold medal.
The 150-mile race will see the riders cycle around numerous London landmarks before heading out to Surrey.
Cav has established himself as the fastest cyclist in the sport, and the flat surface of this event will be sure to suit his impressive sprint finishes.
Although he missed out on the Green Jersey he was on top form again throughout much of the Tour De France, notching the fifteenth stage win of his career on the last day.
Cav will also be out for gold in these games following dissapointment in Beijing in 2008.
