Mark Cavendish, the Manx cycling sensation, took a turn for the worst yesterday. (Tuesday)
After a slow start to his season the 25 year old was on top form in the Tour of Switzerland.
Cavendish was flat-out in the middle of the finish straight, in the fourth stage of the Tour, with victory in his sights when he fell heavily at full speed.
He was then hit by a number of people.
A spokesperson said he had severe ’road rash’ and major bruising and he was being taken to hospital for an X-ray.
