The government has put forward plans for temporary parking at the Summerland site.
The Department of Infrastructure wants to create a facility to accommodate around 50 vehicles there.
In its application, the DOI also outlines proposals to create lighting for the car park and a newly constructed non-permanent crossing from King Edward Road.
The plans are now subject to approval.
