 
                            Smart phone, idiot driver – that’s the new message for motorists who use mobile phones whilst driving.
The Department of Infrastructure and police have once again teamed up to launch a new road safety campaign.
They say around 70 per cent of accidents are caused by driver error and 25 per cent of those because the driver was distracted.
Billboard advertising will be used to get the message out and the police will be pro-actively targeting drivers who flout the rules.
Road safety manager Gordon Edwards says it’s a risk not worth taking:
