The Broadway junction in Douglas is closing today for up to five weeks as the promenade refurbishment scheme continues.
The DOI says the work taking place there will focus on removing traffic lights, installing a new pedestrian crossing and removing islands and street furniture.
The closure on the stretch will run from Loch Promenade to the junction with Derby Road - access for vehicles will only be granted to the Villa Marina Gardens and businesses in the vicinity.
Officials say when the junction re-opens a simple 'stop' sign will be in place and the right turn for southbound traffic reinstated, all of which are temporary measures before a roundabout is built there later in the project.
