Boosting childhood vaccination rates is among the priorities of the government's new five-year Public Health strategy.
For example, it highlights how uptake of the Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccine has dropped by 10 percent in the past five years.
The document also lays out drives to promote activity in old age, reduce smoking and tackle obesity through education and access to healthier food.
And it says a new Data Observatory will be developed to improve how the government uses public health information.
