A bird rescued after being hit by a home-made blow dart has been named after a World War II messenger pigeon.
The pigeon was found in the Pulrose area earlier this month with the item embedded in its wing - the Manx Wild Bird Aid came to its aid and has since said it should make a full recovery.
The charity then took to social media to confirm the pigeon was male - but needed to name him and asked the public for their suggestions!
In a recent post, MWBA says it's called him "Tommy! - in honour of the valiant WWII messenger pigeon who was awarded the PDSA Dicken Medal for delivering a message from Holland to Lancashire in 1942.
