The Steam Packet Company says the Ben-my-Chree will be in Northern Ireland this week for a trial sailing.
On Facebook, the ferry firm says it's looking into the practicality and feasibility of improved services to Ireland.
It says the Ben will undertake a trial sailing to Larne in County Antrim.
But it's warning people not to get their hopes up too soon as no final decision has been made yet about adding the route to its schedules.
