Bell raises 'concern' over paper's proposals

The Chief Minister has said the proposed decision by Isle of Man Newspapers to move its printing to the UK, with subsequent job losses, is a matter of “concern and regret”.

Allan Bell then underlined the fact this was a commercial decision for the company, which is part of a wider group with production in the UK.

He added there’s nothing new in Manx papers getting printed off-Island but it’s crucial the Isle of Man retained an "editorially independent, professional and adequately resourced” press.

Mr Bell then stated there would be concern in the Island if the UK parent company Johnston Press began to regard the Manx papers as "nothing more than one small part of its group of local titles in the north of England”.
