A beach-cleaning charity on the Isle of Man has welcomed a move by the Manx government to ban single-use plastics.
It was backed in Tynwald yesterday (Wednesday) and involves ten commonly used items including carrier bags, straws and polystyrene containers.
Beach Buddies said the banned items, along with fishing gear, represent 70% of all European marine litter.
The Isle of Man ban follows a public consultation when the plans were met with broad support.
90% of the 700 people who took part backed the proposals.
Buisnesses will be given a grace period of 12 months before it becomes illegal to sell or supply.
