A banned drink-driver was caught at the wheel of an all-terrain vehicle he’d bought because he thought it didn’t need a full licence.
William Henry Cubbon of Crossag Road in Ballasalla appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas Courthouse.
The 69 year old admitted driving while disqualified and having no insurance on Mill Road in Ballasalla on January 24.
The court heard he argued with police when he was stopped, claiming the company that sold him the £9,000 vehicle said he only need a provisional licence to drive.
Cubbon had been banned in 2014 and didn’t apply to retake his test because he didn’t think he could pass the theory exam.
Prosecutor James Robinson said Cubbon had been defensive and swore at police, who seized the Polaris Ranger.
Mrs Hughes fined him £1,000 and ordered him to pay £50 costs as well as putting six penalty points on his licence.
