Due To High Number Of Teachers Still Stranded Off Island
Headteacher at Ballakermeen High School Mrs Adrienne Burnett has been telling 3FM that her school wouldn't have been able to cope if all students were in school this week due to their lack of staff.
The Department of Education and Children have made further adjustments to the timetable of Douglas Highs Schools this week.
On Thursday year 7 pupils at Ballakermeen are being told to stay at home as are year 9 pupils at St.Ninians
Both schools still have a significant number of teachers stranded off Island.
This decision has caused uproar amongst some parents who are having to take their children out of school and cover the cost of chid care.
Mrs Burnett said every supply teacher they know has been called in to work.
She said one teacher is stranded in South Africa until May 8th so it could take some time to get the school day back to normal.
She went on to tell us what precautions Ballakermeen have been taking as a result of the ash cloud stopping teachers getting back to the island. (audio above)
