One hundred and fifty temporary tourist accommodation units could soon be built at the site of the former prison on Victoria Road, Douglas, ahead of the 2019 TT.
The planning committee approved the application made by Duke Events Limited on Monday (4 Mar).
Each unit or ‘portacabin’ will accommodate two people and include bathroom facilities, whilst a tented marquee will serve breakfast and drinks at the site.
A hard-standing area has been earmarked for parking, whilst a temporary office will be erected to home a site manager, with security and housekeeping staff also in place.
The applicant expects to cater for short-stay visitors including the corporate guests of event sponsors, with some 300 bed nights understood to be provisionally booked on receipt of approval.
The 150 units must be taken down four days after the end of the TT festival, as a condition of the approval.
