Department of Home Affairs Push Forward Plans to Bring Down Former Prison
Its been revealed that the Victoria Road Prison is going to be demolished.
The Department of Home Affairs is pushing ahead with plans to bring down the former prison, which had been in service since 1891.
Since the prisoners were moved to Jurby in April 2008 its remained empty apart from the occasional one off community event.
There have been calls from the public for the dormant building to be given a facelift.
Home Affairs Minister Adrian Earnshaw has said he can sympathise with those who want to see the building redeveloped, but it's situated on too valuable a piece of land for his Department to justify such an undertaking.
