The airport director's apologised for the 'unusual circumstances' which meant an easyJet flight had to return to Liverpool over the weekend, despite landing at Ronaldsway.
Easyjet confirmed passengers were unable to disembark from the flight on Sunday, December 14 because ground handling services were 'suspended' by strong winds.
The airline offered passengers refunds and hotel stays.
A statement from Ronaldsway Airport said strong and gusting winds prevented aircraft steps from being used within safety limits set by ground handler Menzies Aviation.
Meanwhile interim airport director Geoffrey Pugh stated though he appreciated disruption was caused, he added safety must always come first and the measures are 'necessary to protect everyone at the airport'.
