A goose isn’t just for Christmas!

Please stop dumping pet birds.

That's the message from the Manx Wild Bird Aid following several white domesticated geese being dumped across the Island recently.

The charity says its rescued one goose who is almost blind from cataracts, very underweight and has a balance problem.

It follows another domesticated goose dumped in Peel - volunteer say she was disorientated, terrified and attacked by the resident geese there.

The charity tried to catch her to rehome her, but were unable to as she was so wary.

As the other geese wouldn’t let her eat, one of their volunteers has been going down every day and spreading food around in different places so she managed to get some.

Now she has befriended one of the other geese and the rest are tolerating her better - but she and the other geese are still at risk here from dogs attacks, road collisions and other hazards.

The MWBA says dumping a domesticated bird is exactly like dumping a pet dog or cat in the middle of nowhere and expecting them to fend for themselves.

The charity adds it's cruel and illegal and if you own or inherit a domesticated bird  you don’t want, the right thing to do it take them to the MSPCA, rehome them yourself or contact us to help you rehome them.

It adds domesticated birds don't have the skills they need to survive in the wild, they need a home where they will be properly cared for and protected instead.

If you see someone dumping domesticated birds, you're urged try to get video and a registration number to help the charity stamp out the 'cruel practice'.
