63 candidates to contest General Election

More than 60 candidates have put their names forward to contest next month's General Election.

63 people have officially entered the race to become an MHK and be elected to the House of Keys in September.

Of those 17 are previous MHKs who were in the last government administration and who want to retake their seat - although due to the boundary changes some have moved constituencies.

For the first time two representatives will be elected in each of the 12 areas - 13 women are standing in total with a female presence in eight of the constituencies.

55 of the candidates have declared as independent, the Liberal Vannin Party has fielded four representatives and the Manx Labour Party three - one is standing as an 'independent green'.

The General Election takes place on September 22nd - voters have until September 1st to register to vote.
