30 firefighters spent four hours tackling a fire on Greeba Hill this evening.
The operation involved 2 Pinzgauer off road appliances, a water bowser, DEFA tractor with cutter, a total of 30 firefighters and 3 DEFA officers.
Douglas crews tackled a heath fire on the hilltops above Greeba Bridge, - Approximately 100 square meters of heathland were involved.
Crews were trying to stop the fire spreading; with light winds pushing the fire quickly down the hillside in an operation that took around 4 hours.
A crew will remain on scene through the night dealing with hot spots and ensuring that the fire does not re-ignite.
The fire service says the ground remains incredibly dry and the fire remains deep in the ground.
The cause of this fire is not currently known but will be investigated.
