2014 sees warmest recorded sea surface temperatures

2014 saw the warmest sea surface temperatures on record.

The Government Laboratory found that the last six months of the year exceeded previous records - with August 6 having the highest sea surface. 
 
It resulted in high levels of phytoplankton last year; despite the figures, there was still less reported basking sharks. 
 
Dr Kev Kennington from the Government laboratory says it's had a positive knock on for the Island's queen and king scallop numbers:
