Ramsey is set to lose two of its most historically significant sites over the next few months as demolition work begins on the old Albert Road School, and the dormant Grand Island Hotel.
The old Albert Road School had served the town for over 100 years and finally closed its doors in 2008.
The Grand Island too had been Ramsey’s premier hotel since 1897.
Once cleared, the old school site will eventually be redeveloped for commercial and residential use.
Plans are in place to build a 68-apartment, 3-block complex on the hotel site.
The former School is currently having asbestos stripped from it before the demolishing works get underway.
Work will begin on both sites in March and it’s anticipated it will take roughly 4 to 5 weeks.
