A £1m support package will be made available to low income households, if a gas hike is given the green light.
Members are currently debating a 27.5% increase - which Manx Gas says will only allow it to 'break even' on what it's selling locally.
If the cap increase is approved, Manx Gas would be able to increase charges to consumers by up to 2.1 pence per unit of gas - with the new prices coming into play from mid-October.
Treasury Minister David Ashford outlined the proposed support in Tynwald this afternoon.
He said those eligible for the winter bonus scheme will receive an additional £100 lump sum.
Meanwhile, those on income support - who don't qualify for the payment will get a standalone £100 payment - with some extra cash available for those living just above that level.
