Health and Lifestyle Survey Reveal 15% of Adults on Island Binge Drink
The Isle of Man Health and Lifestyle Survey, carried out in 2009 has revealed that 15% of the adult population are binge drinkers.
The Isle of Man has come in for criticism since it was revealed as one of the worst countries in Europe for binge drinking, finishing fourth in a major survey featuring 35 Countries carried out in 2009.
As well as the binge drinking, 10% of adults in the survey were discovered to drink levels described as hazardous, with 3% consuming levels harmful to their health.
Excessive binge drinking and alcoholism can lead to numerous health problems, including liver failure and pancreatitis.
Dr Paul Emerson is a Consultant for Public Health; he told us that it's particularly a problem with young men on the Island.
