New laws which would see parents get time off work if their children are getting neonatal intensive care have been given Royal Assent.
The Employment (Amendment) Act 2026 has now passed its final legislative hurdle, although the Department for Enterprise now needs to come up with detailed regulations.
The new law gives new statutory rights for neonatal care leave and carer's leave for workers.
It also allows the DfE to make parental bereavement leave more widely available.
