Manx Telecom says it will begin notifying customers of its copper switch off in the next few weeks.
The company's move to a completely fibre network gets underway this year.
The process will happen in zones with Foxdale, Kirk Michael and St Johns being the first to be notified of the change.
People living in each zone will be given 12 months' notice to make changes with their provider.
