The Isle of Man has become the first place in the world to introduce laws for governed data assets, after new legislation received Royal Assent.
The government says the new rules will help businesses use and share data more securely as AI and digital services continue to grow.
Work is already underway on a new Data Asset Register and the systems needed to put the framework into practice.
Enterprise Minister Tim Johnston says the move could create new long-term opportunities for the Island’s economy.
