Treasury Minister Alex Allinson says the government can dip into its overdraft without asking permission from Tynwald - but only under certain circumstances.
He faced a question for written reply from Rushen MHK Juan Watterson about powers to use an overdraft with Royal Bank of Scotland International.
In his response, Dr Allinson said the government could use the borrowing facility if it needed to defray expenses until later.
And he explained that power was granted under the 50 year old Isle of Man Loans Act.
