A survey by the Island's Chamber of Commerce shows 88 per cent of members think their business will suffer with the Steam Packet's fuel surcharge.
Around half say there have been significant cost increases hitting prices and profit margins, which will be passed to customers.
Meanwhile about 15 per cent say the increasing freight charges are severe enough to threaten their business.
The chamber has written to government calling for clearer communication from the Steam Packet about how the surcharge is set - you can see the full survey results via this link.
