Work to replace the Pulrose river bridge could start next year.
Officials are currently inviting expressions of interest from qualified engineers to carry out the work, which would involve a phased process of demolishing and then reconstructing the bridge at an increased height.
The initiative would also include maintaining access routes whilst the project is carried out and building new retaining walls.
According to the tender, its anticipated the starting date for the initiative would be in November but then work would commence on site in March 2021.
Officials add, with the structure situated on an important route, they would want closures there limited to the shortest practical period.
The current bridge was constructed in 1931 after the previous one was destroyed by flooding.
