Woman who admits wrongly claiming benefits had help from her dad

A court’s heard a woman got her dad to fill in claim forms so she could fraudulently claim income support when she lived in Manchester.

Rachel Jayne Hay of Urley Path in Anagh Coar and William Peter Hay of Heather Crescent in Pulrose appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse.

48 year old Miss Hay admitted four counts of making false representations to obtain benefits and one of failing to inform Treasury of a change in circumstances between November 2020 and December last year.

Her 72 year old father pleaded guilty to three counts of making false representations to obtain benefits and one of making articles for use in fraud.

Prosecutor Hazel Carroon told the hearing Hay had been claiming income support from 2017, but moved to Gorton in Manchester to be with her boyfriend.

She kept up her claim despite living off the Island, and asked her father to fill in forms and forge her signature to claim £14,755 she wasn’t entitled to.

The court heard benefits investigators looked at her bank account after receiving a tip-off and saw she’d been spending money in the UK for some time.

Magistrates asked for pre-sentencing reports to be prepared and bailed both in the sum of £500 – they’ll appear in court again on May 19.
